One Day Seminar For CWU Health And Safety Representatives Stress At Work Dave Joyce CWU National Health, Safety & Environment Officer has issued LTB842/11 to advise all CWU Union Safety Reps of an event being run by the BTU North West Regional Health and Safety Committee: Working Together To Reduce Stress At WorkWednesday 2nd November 2011 10am to 4pm Mechanics Institute, 103 Princess Street, Manchester, M1 6DD (entrance on Major Street) Stress is often a symptom of poor employment relations and conditions that can seriously affect a workers health and productivity. Organisations who talk regularly with their employees and Union Health and Safety Reps have sound systems and procedures in place for dealing with issues like this and are much more likely to avoid work-related stress and to be able to deal with potentially stressful situations when they arise. This one day seminar will hear from a number of speakers from the Safety profession, employers, Lawyers and the Union. The seminar will look at what stress is, how it works, affects productivity and impacts on physical and mental health. It will look at solutions and protections for workers and discuss how to achieve a mentally healthy and stress free workplace. Exercise 1 Stress Pub Quiz A Round Table quiz in which teams answer a series of questions relating to the stress (prevalence, impact, legislative position/protection etc) STIGMA AS A BARRIER TO DISCLOSURE * Why is it a “taboo” subject? Exercise 2 Creating a Mentally Healthy Workplace Delegates will be asked to identify the components of a “mentally healthy workplace” in this exercise. Followed by Feedback and Speaker presentation of example of good practice The CWU Branches in the BTU North West Regional Health and Safety Committee are organising this 'free seminar' which is open to all CWU Health and Safety Representatives.
